The Conservation Service of Craigavon Borough Council is based at Oxford Island.
The Conservation Officer as well as advising on the management of the Reserve and other public places is responsible for the Wildlife throughout the Borough.
In order to protect our Wildlife, expert and local opinion was sought to identify those habitats and species most at risk within Craigavon. A partnership was formed and a Local Biodiversity Action Plan produced, which, seeks to address the problems and improve the environment. The resulting document ‘Action for Nature Conservation’ was published in December 2006 and sets out how we all can help to protect and conserve our wild places and their plants and animals.
The establishment of Local Nature Reserves and Actions Plans for the habitats and species provides the focus for this work. A series of projects seek to protect and enhance, and events to highlight the environment.
